St. John the Apostle Catholic School exists in order to serve the Lord Jesus Christ in His Body, the church. It does so by serving the children, families, and individuals of St. John the Apostle Parish. This ministry is the preparation of the student to know and serve Jesus Christ. This preparation encompasses all aspects of the person: spiritually, academic skills and knowledge, physical fitness, and social and cultural development. St John the Apostle, our school's patron saint, is one of the most important and influential saints in the history of the Church. St. Paul himself even called John one of the "Pillars of the Church." Working as a young fisherman alongside his brother James and his father Zebedee, John left everything to follow the call of Jesus. Not only was John a member of the 12 Apostles, he was one of the three select Apostles chosen by Jesus to accompany Him in some very privileged moments such as Jesus' transfiguration, the healing of the synagogue official's daughter and Jesus' agony in the Garden of Gethesmane before his arrest and crucifixion. John was also known as the beloved disciple, and in his closeness to Jesus rested his head on Jesus during the Last Supper. As the only Apostle to remain by Jesus' side during the crucifixion, John was given the responsibility of caring for Mary, our Blessed Mother, after Jesus' death. Jesus predicted that John would not be martyred and he likely lived a long life. In that time, it is believed that he wrote the fourth Gospel, three letters, and possibly, the Book of Revelation. In these writings, John shows us the grandeur of Jesus' divine being as he speaks of the Word that became flesh and proclaims that God is love.
