Annoucement

Saint Mary’s School is excited to announce several new academic opportunities to reinforce our commitment to providing a robust and comprehensive academic experience. Beginning next academic year, Saint Mary’s will offer the AP Capstone Program and Dual Enrollment courses on our campus taught by our dedicated faculty during the school day. The AP Capstone program is designed to nurture independent research, foster collaborative teamwork and enhance advanced communication skills. Completing this program will be a mark of distinction for students in the increasingly competitive college admissions landscape. Dual enrollment courses will be offered through an established partnership with Marymount University. These courses will allow our students to earn college credit as a Saint Mary’s student, while exploring potential college majors and career interests.

“These innovative programs showcase our commitment to leadership in educational excellence. They will expand educational opportunities for all students, preparing them to lead with confidence, intellect and integrity. Through the rigorous research of AP Capstone and the college-level coursework of Dual Enrollment, our students will gain the academic advantage necessary for success in their post-secondary pursuits.”
– Dr. Adam Holden, Head of School

Agenda Young Women’s Leadership Institute (YWLI), a transformative program designed to empower high school girls by providing intentional experiences that expand their leadership potential and foster a sense of civic responsibility. Our flagship program is an immersive 14-day/nights experience that challenges participants to reflect on their leadership strengths and embrace the qualities that will enable them to make a meaningful impact on the world. This dynamic cohort of globally diverse young women actively engages in leadership development, skill-building workshops, and scenario-based collaboration—all guided by an inspiring speaker series featuring accomplished women leaders from a variety of fields. We are particularly excited to announce that this year we will welcome Dr. Erika Cohen Derr, Associate Vice President of Student Affairs at Georgetown University, to our campus as part of our newly launched Scholar-in-Residence program. Dr. Cohen Derr will partner with the program director to design a cutting-edge, two-week leadership curriculum tailored to meet the evolving needs of our students. This collaboration will provide our participants with innovative perspectives and fresh insights, ensuring that YWLI remains an exceptional resource for cultivating the next generation of leaders. Additionally, we have an inspiring lineup of speakers from diverse disciplines, backgrounds, and industries, all of whom will share their invaluable leadership lessons from their years of experience. We invite you to learn more about this incredible opportunity by visiting our program website: https://www.sms.edu/ywli. The 2025 Institute will take place from June 15-28, 2025.

At Saint Mary’s School, we challenge girls academically – to be BOLD, to be INSPIRED, to be PREPARED, and to become EXTRAORDINARY. What sets Saint Mary's School apart from other schools? Our parents say it’s the safety in an urban environment, the small classes, and extraordinary college admission services from three full-time college counselors. Our students say it’s the sense of community, the Honor Code, “space to be yourself,” the location (near cultural centers, concerts, shopping, and restaurants), and feeling accepted and empowered in their learning and social growth. Two identity markers also make Saint Mary’s School a distinct option for high school: we are all-girls, and we are a boarding school, as well as a day school. “Growing up girl” is harder than ever, and Saint Mary’s is intentional in its efforts in helping girls grow up healthy. In an all-girl environment, Saint Mary’s students enjoy not just equal opportunity, but every opportunity, and learning takes center stage without social distractions. Here girls are supported by a culture, climate, and community that together generate high levels of personal and academic self-confidence and a can-do attitude. It’s a place where it’s cool to work hard and be a good student.
As a boarding school, Saint Mary’s provides a 24-hour learning environment focused on education supported by heightened interaction between students and their teachers, who see their work as a calling, not a job. Day students at Saint Mary’s have unique advantages, not found at other day schools, for extraordinary access to the school’s facilities, programs, and people—days and nights, weekdays and weekends. Of course, Saint Mary’s is more than college preparatory, independent, all-girls, day and boarding school. It is an honor code school, an Episcopal school, a tablet computer school, and an old school with a storied history and proud heritage. As one alumna aptly describes it, “Saint Mary’s is a fabulously modern take on a very traditional concept.”
