Ranking Basis

Data Scale: FindingSchool leverages an extensive data set that exceeds that of similar rankings, ensuring accurate and relevant evaluations through well-defined weight distributions and scoring mechanisms.

Weight Distribution: We gathered feedback from thousands of families and consulted over 50 industry experts to create ranking weights tailored to the needs of Asian students.

Scoring Mechanism: Each of the 46 distinct data points is evaluated using unique mathematical models, scoring based on its position within the overall data distribution.

Basis for Ranking: Instead of absolute values, we focus on relative differences in data. There is no fixed score threshold for separating schools; instead, the “admission cutoff” is adjusted annually based on data trends, similar to college entrance exams.

Evaluation Mechanism

The school page currently displays an evaluation card that includes an overall rating and ratings across five key categories, totaling 46 data points. The five categories are: Geographic Community, Academic Strength, Matriculation Level, Extracurricular Activities, and FindingSchool Reviews. Visitors can easily view the overall score and ratings for each dimension (ranging from A+ to C). For boarding schools, detailed total score rankings are also included

The data used for evaluations and rankings comes from three primary sources: official school data, public data, and user-submitted data on FindingSchool.

Scoring Mechanism

The entire scoring system is based on mathematical models derived from statistical analysis of samples from hundreds of schools across various levels. Each data point receives a corresponding rating based on its percentile position within the overall predicted distribution.

  • In the boarding school evaluation:: A- and above account for 45% of the total, B- and above account for 40%, C accounts for 15%.

  • In the day school evaluation: A- and above account for 30% of the total, B- and above account for 51%, C and others account for 19%.

New York Military Academy, established in 1889 in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York, is a college preparatory school for day and boarding students in grades 8 through 12. NYMA is dedicated to a comprehensive and substantive process of developing young leaders who are "Inspired, Engaged, and Ready" for success and fulfillment in college and in life.
Utilizing the military model for leadership development and a rigorous, expeditionary curriculum grounded by a demand for competence in the classical disciplines, NYMA graduates are thoughtfully prepared to seek out extraordinary lives of accountability and service.
In school, NYMA cadets pursue a cutting-edge and relevant 21st century curriculum alongside a structured, leadership and life-skills focused military program guided by the school’s decades long affiliation with the United States Army JROTC. The academy is designated as an Honor Unit with Distinction by the Department of the Army and enjoys a solid reputation as one of the nation's leading institutions in numbers of graduates attending the service academies and earning 4-year ROTC College Scholarships.
NYMA graduates are leaders in all walks of life. The Academy's "tracks of intention" high school discovery program enables students to pursue lines of academic credit and co-curricular experience that enable them to gain exposure to areas of aspiration. Beyond the Service Academy track, cadets have the option of pursuing planned tracks of study and experience that support interest in areas such as International Diplomacy, Education, Green Business Initiatives, Health Care Professions, Research in the Sciences, and others.
The school's competitive academic, experiential education and athletic programs are enhanced by a structured boarding environment that includes a nightly, mentored study hall and a 12:1 student/teacher ratio in the classroom. Cadets enjoy substantive opportunities to not only learn accountability but to practice peer leadership and to accept important responsibility. For over a century, this culture of cadet leadership, community responsibility and personal resilience has built an esprit de corps among the NYMA student body and graduates that has created a powerful alumni network that helps energize the campus.
ESL, band/music (both a military marching band and performance music), computers, drill team and an equestrian program are available. The 120-acre campus is conveniently located just 60 miles north of New York City.
