Evaluation method

Ranking Basis

Data Scale: FindingSchool leverages an extensive data set that exceeds that of similar rankings, ensuring accurate and relevant evaluations through well-defined weight distributions and scoring mechanisms.

Weight Distribution: We gathered feedback from thousands of families and consulted over 50 industry experts to create ranking weights tailored to the needs of Asian students.

Scoring Mechanism: Each of the 46 distinct data points is evaluated using unique mathematical models, scoring based on its position within the overall data distribution.

Basis for Ranking: Instead of absolute values, we focus on relative differences in data. There is no fixed score threshold for separating schools; instead, the “admission cutoff” is adjusted annually based on data trends, similar to college entrance exams.

Evaluation Mechanism

The school page currently displays an evaluation card that includes an overall rating and ratings across five key categories, totaling 46 data points. The five categories are: Geographic Community, Academic Strength, Matriculation Level, Extracurricular Activities, and FindingSchool Reviews. Visitors can easily view the overall score and ratings for each dimension (ranging from A+ to C). For boarding schools, detailed total score rankings are also included

The data used for evaluations and rankings comes from three primary sources: official school data, public data, and user-submitted data on FindingSchool.

Scoring Mechanism

The entire scoring system is based on mathematical models derived from statistical analysis of samples from hundreds of schools across various levels. Each data point receives a corresponding rating based on its percentile position within the overall predicted distribution.

  • In the boarding school evaluation:: A- and above account for 45% of the total, B- and above account for 40%, C accounts for 15%.

  • In the day school evaluation: A- and above account for 30% of the total, B- and above account for 51%, C and others account for 19%.

2025 Evaluation Methodology

3. [14% - Extracurricular Activities]: Alumni donation rate, number of clubs and activities, ratings for competitive sports teams, and ratings for arts programs.

4. [12% - FindingSchool Reviews] : FindingSchool website rating, review comments on FindingSchool, and historical rating trends.

Founded in 1923, South Kent School is an all-boys private school for grades 9-12. The school is located on a beautiful 650-acre campus in South Kent, CT in Litchfield County and is surrounded by Bull Mountain, Hatch Pond, and the historic Bulls Bridge. We are 80 miles from NYC and 10 minutes from the train station that runs to Grand Central Terminal. South Kent School was founded on the Trinity of Values: Simplicity of Life, Self-Reliance, and Directness of Purpose. These values have served students and alumni of South Kent for almost 100 years. South Kent offers world-class academics, a robust student life, and strong athletics. These programs provide the resources and the encouragement that our students need to master the four characteristics that define a South Kent School student: Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Emotional Resilience, and Stewardship. This School framework allows every community member to live into the mission: South Kent School prepares young men to succeed in college and thrive as thoughtful and engaged citizens in a rapidly changing and intensely competitive world. South Kent School’s curriculum is intentionally designed with an emphasis on how boys learn best. By focusing on skill development as well as content absorption, our boys are engaged with the material through project based and experiential lessons. This teaching model is designed to enhance retention, which allows our young men the opportunity to find their intellectual passions and explore those passions deeply. Outside of the classroom our students are able to participate in interscholastic sports including Soccer, Basketball, Ice Hockey, Cross Country, Mountain Biking and Lacrosse. Other extracurricular activities include Club Tennis, Skiing, Golf and Crew. We also provide our students the opportunity to participate in Outdoor Activities that they can sign up for on a weekly basis. Beginning in the fall of 2023, our Academic Curriculum will include elective tracks in Engineering, Economics, Coding/Robotics, and E-Gaming. These electives will be paired with Academic Clubs that will meet after the school day, which will allow students to participate in hands on activities and explore real-world scenarios.
