Overview

Founded in the Palmetto Bay, Florida community in 1982, our Winhold Montessori school began with a student body of ten and a staff of one assistant and Mrs. Eleanor Winhold. By 1985, the school had expanded to three classrooms at two locations, and in 1990, the three Children's Houses became centralized in one location at Old Cutler Road. We are dedicated to the principles of a true Montessori education which means that our school's environment is prepared and adapted in order to link the child to it through well thought out lessons and to facilitate the child's exploration and creativity. The method of Montessori is based on the recognition that children are all different and must be treated individually; that children absorb knowledge best when the impulse to learn comes from their own mind; that children should eagerly desire to work at a project, thereby teaching themselves.
