High Desert Montessori School has as its primary goal the provision of an important alternative method of education for Washoe County School District. This system of education was developed by Dr. Montessori and is a complete system that covers all of the disciplines found in traditional educational models. The lessons are designed to provide the student with the tools of self-construction through exercises in which they can explore their vast heritage of information. All fields of study begin with orienting the child to the discoveries made by previous generations and opening the door for them to take up their place in this continuum of information, research, and discovery. This system of education is renowned for its creativity and responsibility. All learning is paced for the individual child and facilitates the child's personal integrity concerning his or her own education. The classroom environment is noncompetitive, inclusive, and peaceful.
