The Children's Studio is a quality early childhood education center founded in 1982 by Director Rae Ann McLanahan, M.Ed. It is licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care, the state licensing agency which mainly addresses the health and safety issues of preschools. As part of our curriculum this year, The Children's Studio will be implementing The Early Childhood Program Standards and the Guidelines for Preschool Learning Experiences created by the Massachusetts Department of Education (DOE) which are based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks PreK-K (or PreK- Grades 1-4). All staff at our school have received initial training in these new DOE guidelines and we look forward to using them as we continue to design a variety of foundational and rich learning experiences for the young children and families who are part of our program. The Children's Studio has a warm, rich, and spacious environment for young children to explore. There are many nooks and crannies . . . a castle, a playhouse, a puppet theatre, and a real tent. The arts and crafts area is busy with painting, playdough, and messy play. Music, creative movement, and children's literature are important to us and are in daily plans. We have a warm and caring staff with lots of experience with young children and knowledge about child development. Our greeting area has fanciful window boxes, a picket fence, and a picnic table where children and parents exchange kisses and noserubs each day.
